Education
I will be a Freshman at Northwestern University this upcoming fall. I intend to major in Math and Economics with a possible minor in Computer Science. My GPA after my first semester of sophomore year in high school was a 5.03 and throughout high school it was a 4.77 (GPA is out of 5.33). I graduated with honors all 4 years in 2015 from New Trier High School.
Experience
I student taught a high level math course at my high school senior year. This course was on discrete math. I also tutored 2-3 hours a day Junior year at my high school and 1.5-2 hours a day Senior year. I tutor outside of school as well. I enjoy tutoring because I like helping people understand difficult concepts. I enjoy school and teaching so the time I tutor is a pleasure. I believe I am an effective tutor because I help students understand the underlying concepts. I don't just have them memorize facts and with the understanding in place, the knowledge comes so much easier to mind. Also I try to make the learning experience fun, and in my experience that also helps with retention. I received a 35 on my ACT, with a 36 in Math, 35 in Science, 34 in English and 33 in Reading. I got an 800 on my Math level 2 SAT subject test and a 780 on my Chemistry SAT subject test. I've received two Math awards from my high school and also participated in Math Team State and did very well, with the team placing in 6th. I've taken AP BC Calculus and all the classes leading up to it plus AP Computer Science and Discrete Math. I received A's in all these courses. I also received A's in AP Chemistry, AP Economics and AP Spanish among other classes. I am an Eagle Scout and was inducted into the Boy scout Honor Society. I also was President (SeniorPatrol Leader) of my troop for a year. I am a National Merit Commended Scholar and I received a silver medal in the National Spanish Exam.
